Thanks for Jesus, Bread of Life - John 6:22-35

When studying the selected scripture texts for today my eye was caught at the final verse.  "Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life.  Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." (John 6:35)  Now, I have read and heard this line hundreds of times in my life.  Today, for some reason, it held more meaning.

I have never been hungry; really hungry, feeling my stomach growl and hurt because of a lack of food.    I have never experienced true thirst; the kind where lips are parched and cracked.  When a person is undernourished; craving food of any kind to fill an empty stomach, I am told there is a weakness felt in every limb.  We eat bread to satisfy physical hunger and to sustain life.

This line is addressing another sort of hunger, the hunger for truth, as in Jesus.  We can satisfy and sustain spiritual hunger by believing in Jesus Christ.  Bread must be eaten to have physical life, but Christ, Bread of Life, needs to be invited into our daily walk for spiritual life.  There was a time in my life when I was spiritually thirsty.  No more; "whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
