I often wonder why God chose to give me salvation. I am constantly amazed at the healing and growth He has provided for me. I stand in awe when I take a good long look at who I was a few short years ago and who I am now because God decided to bless me with His grace.
I love the way the Message words our scripture for today because it is so real and true. "I don't see many of the 'brightest and the best' among you." (1 Corinthians 1:26 MSG) Doesn't that just make you grin? God recognized some of us come from the wrong side of the tracks and still He "deliberately chose me, a 'nobody' to expose the hollow pretensions of the 'somebodies' ". (1 Corinthians 1:30 MSG)
God uses folks like you and like me, broken and defeated people who could never be pointed to as special or uniquely gifted individuals. God selected us because we are broken, and when he uses us to minister to another broken person, they can know that they too, can be saved.
Like the final verse in today's selection reads, "That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That's why we have the saying, "If you're going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God."
