God Doesn't Stop Looking- Matthew 20:1-16
When most people look at today’s verse they highlight the ending where it says, ”Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?” and then relate the verse to us needing to understand that God will give the reward of heaven to anyone, even the deathbed confession of Jesus. This understanding of the passage is correct but today let’s look even deeper.
All through the passage we see the Master of the vineyard, who represents God, going out at various times of the day looking for workers. I am encouraged that God not only pays each worker the same wage, but he never stops looking for workers. We see that even as the day draws to a close, the master of the vineyard hires those who are looking for work.
Do you have a friend who is in the twilight of their life and still does not know Jesus? Don’t lose hope. God has not stopped looking, and if your friend comes to a point where they want to know Jesus, God will be there with the same reward we will receive. Your job is to pray for that friend and talk with them about eternal things, God will do the rest.
