Let's Party! Matthew 22:1-22

I love parties. I love going to parties, I love throwing parties. It’s fun to be around people during special occasions who want to celebrate with you. My favorite party had to be the adoption party we threw when we could finally say that Evan was our son forever. I have to admit that even more than the wonderful desserts, including the chocolate fountain, my favorite thing had to be the support we received from those who attended.

Our family who flew to California to be with us, were stunned at the response. It seemed like everyone we invited showed up. Our passage for today shares a different story. Here we see a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son and not a soul who was invited showed up. Not only did they not show up, they refused to come.

We all know that the king in this story represents God and the son, Jesus. Those invited to the banquet are not just rejecting an initiation to a party but to eternal life. This passage begins with, “The kingdom of heaven is like…” So let’s get out there and make sure those we come in contact with RSVP before it’s too late.
