Whoa! Matthew 23: 13-39

One word comes to mind when I read today’s text, whoa. Jesus is getting down to business
with the seven woes delivered to the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees. Without mincing words He is calling out those who are talking a good talk but not walking the walk. He throws out statements like, “hypocrites, blind guides, whitewashed tombs, snakes, brood of vipers.”

He is not messing around because life is short and eternity is forever. There is a world full of people who need to know Jesus and the eternal life he offers. There is no time for us to be playing church.

Jesus does not want pretenders who look to have their lives in order and then go around falling apart at the seams. For one, his grace and strength can offer so much more if we would just be honest about our struggles. And secondly, pretending to have our lives together brings focusing on ourselves and not those who need to know about the salvation Jesus has to offer.

It’s not an easy life God is calling us to live, but it is good. Do you need to say whoa to the life your living before God say’s woe? Is it time to get real with your reality and let others into your mess so that they can see the power of God clean it up? It’s when we get real with others that God becomes real to them as well.
