Chick flicks are often called by this name because they generally revolve around a theme of love, and women (chicks) are considered prime promoters of love. It is often a woman you will find reading a romance novel or singing a love song with the radio. There are four types of love:
- Eros - intimate, passionate
- Storge - affection (as for a child)
- Phileo - brotherly, friend love
- Agape - sacrificial
It is the fourth, agape love, the scripture today elaborates on. "And now I will show you the most excellent way." (1 Corinthians 12:31
b) It was enjoyable to flesh out some of the text.
- Love is: Patient, Kind
- Love Does Not: Boast, Isn't proud or rude or self-seeking. It isn't easily angered, doesn't hold a grudge and doesn't rejoice in evil
- Love Does: Rejoices with truth, protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres
Jesus teaches us agape love is defined by our motivation. Is there someone you would die for? That is agape love. C.S. Lewis wrote a book titled,
Four Loves, and he recognizes agape love as the greatest love and sees it as specifically Christian virtue. Are you motivated by love? Am I? Or do I do what I do so I look good? Lent is a perfect time to reflect on this question and search out my motivation. Lent is also the perfect time to make a course correction if need be.

Thank you for this post. I really enjoyed how you define love and then so clearly break down 1 Cor. 13. Well done. I "loved" it. ;)
