"It's my turn, give me one more chance or I will go home. I quit!" This may be a conversation overheard on a playground, but it could also be a statement said during a heated discussion between married couples. It is easier to say, "I quit," than it is to stick around for a while and work things out.
We expect our children will have to learn some lessons the hard way, but we as adults should be prepared for an uphill battle. We should be ready to duke it out, learn, give some, and then move forward. Every time we quit, we are stepping backward, giving in to just what Satan wants; a broken marriage.
I found the text for today's study to be a difficult one to decipher; even my Life Application Commentary didn't help me focus on a theme to share. Perhaps this is because I see a couple of them and they do not relate only to the topic of marriage but to stick-to-it-ive-ness as well. Every marriage has bumps in the road, but a verse in today's scripture reads: And if you are married, stay married. This is the Master's command, not mine. (1 Corinthians 7:10 MSG)
I am thankful that for me and my husband, divorce was never an option. We had seasons of great struggle and difficulty and I am sure we both wanted to leave, but we stuck with it. Certainly there are times when two people cannot stay together and divorce is necessary. The fact is, there is sin in this world, and we, God's people, go against His Word everyday. But scripture says if you are married, stay married, and as Christians we are to practice God's commands everyday.
