My husband and I have learned over the last four years how important it is for us to agree on issues in front of our son. We don’t always agree, but we understand that showing unity helps us in the long run. We work out our differences when Evan is asleep or at school.
We are not trying to be fake, just uncomplicated. Evan does not need to be concerned with grown up matters. Paul is trying to explain, in our passage today, how those who do not have faith do not need to be concerned with Christians who disagree.
As Christians we need to remember that the world is watching and Satan would love nothing more than to confuse those without faith, as to who God really is through our petty disagreements.
Paul is not messing around when he says, “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
How do we do this? The only way I know how is through prayer and humility. When I care more about being right than God’s glory, I need to check my priorities. Let pray together today that we would be aware of the times when we are giving Satan ammunition instead of walking with our Christian brother and sisters.
