Today we read of the fourth woman to find herself
childless, yet longing desperately to be a mother. Prayers once again are lifted up to God
pleading for mercy and fruitfulness. And
again, God hears the prayers of a faithful woman, blesses her with the fulfillment
of her dream to nurture and bring forth a son.
1 Samuel 1:20 (NIV)
“So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."
“So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."
Have you noticed something these past few days; have
you observed how extraordinary these male children were, how they changed the
course of history, perhaps the world? God’s hand was upon these men from before
their conception, is it any wonder? They
were brought into the world following fervent and faithful prayers—they then
served this world and their God, in an astonishing fashion.
Three of these male children became patriarchs – men
who served God through thick and thin.
Now we have Samuel who became a prophet of the LORD. God uses Samuel in a mighty way, just as He
used Abraham, Isaac, and Joseph.
After having spent many weeks studying The Story and
reading and learning about these men, we can now put their actions into a new
context. We can see how all they have
done brings to us this wonderful season we call Christmas. We have read some very difficult text lately,
filled with death, destruction and disobedience. Everything pointing to the need for a Savior,
and that is just where this is leading us.
Keep reading with us, The Story just keeps getting
better and better.
