The Story - Chapter 17 - 2 Chronicles 33, 36

God goes to such great lengths to get His people to turn their backs on the sinful ways they have been living.  He gives one opportunity after another and I have to think that some of the people, at least a couple, took advantage of the second chance they had been offered.

2 Chronicles 33:10 (NIV)
"The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention."

We know that most did not; most ignored anything God's prophets had to say.  I can't imagine what it must have been like to be Isaiah, or Jeremiah, or Ezekiel.  The task these men were given was huge and so very important and they had to have been saddened to be preaching to such deaf ears.

As a child, when I didn't listen to my parents, they accused me of having 'tin ears'.  I never understood that use of words before. Now, I can apply that idiom to the people of Israel and Judah.  They had been deaf to the truth.  Are we the same today?  Do we not hear the voice of history past that we repeat the same behavior?  Are we too, doomed to destruction?

God still calls to us.  God has not changed, nor will He.  But, it is imperative that we change our ways; that we turn from selfish and unloving actions.  It is time to bury our pride and turn to God.

2 Chronicles 36:15-16 (NIV)
"The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked God's messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the LORD was aroused against his people and there was no remedy."
