The Story - Chapter 19 - Zechariah 1,8

For several weeks our scripture readings have found the Lord sending messages through angels and prophets about His people going back to Israel and rebuilding again and again. The last two weeks have told of his continued forgiveness and willingness to offer a fresh start to his sinning people. Apparently God understands how short our memories are when it comes to keeping Him and his word front and center in our hearts and minds. Why is that so difficult? Obviously it’s been that way from the beginning. Talk about patience as He lays out His plan!

God tells us He is coming. Zechariah 1:16 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: “I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt….” verse 17; “My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.” Continuing to speak of Jerusalem in Chapter 2, (I could not help but read on) verse 5 states, “And I myself will be a wall of fire around it, declares the Lord, and I will be its glory within.”
Verse 10 and 11; “Shout and be glad, oh Daughter of Zion, for I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord. Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. Verse 13; Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his Holy dwelling.”

Zechariah 8 is titled, The Lord Promises to Bless Jerusalem. This promise continues the prophesy of the coming of Christ. Zechariah 8:3 This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”

There are so many more verses that tell of the coming of Jesus, and what the Lord has planned for us. All of what was promised has happened, down to the smallest detail. He entered this world quietly and innocently, but with a plan far greater than any other. The gentle ways of Jesus went unnoticed by many, and were despised by multitudes, yet his impact, immeasurable. Lesson: We do not have to come off like splendid prophets or brilliant scholars. Quiet, and soft, and slow can be very effective. He came in like a lamb, but went out like a lion!
