Nehemiah 1:3 (NIV)
"Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire."
This news broke Nehemiah's heart and he broke down and wept, then he fasted and prayed, seeking God's guidance and wisdom. "O LORD,
God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with
those who love him and obey his commands, let your
ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying
before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the
sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed
against you." (Nehemiah 1:5-6)
Nehemiah took on a big job, but he knew how to begin. He knew the only way to do the impossible was to turn to the One for whom nothing is impossible. Is there something in your life right now that has you chained to worry and grief. Is there a situation that needs Heavenly Intervention? Let us learn from Nehemiah and pray as he did.
Oh, Heavenly Father, the one who loves unconditionally, hear our prayers. We thank you for your grace and your mercy, and we thank you now for what you will do for us. We are sorry for not turning to you all the time, for not remembering your unending love for us is always available. Hear our personal plea, heal our hearts, mend our broken spirits and forgive us. Amen
