The Story - Chapter 25 - Jesus, the Son of God

There was a time in my life when I wondered what happens after you die.  I now have a better grasp on the Gospel and understand the answer to this question is found in Scripture.  In fact the answer is the Good News we hear so much about.

Even after learning the answer and believing it to be true we still ask this question when faced with death.  Those times when we receive a terminal diagnosis for ourselves or a loved one, the question, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?", is a very real puzzle.

We know as Christians, that Christ died for our sins and we have all the right answers for those who approach us, but when it hits home we still have the doubt, the wondering, if it really means me. God's Grace is the answer to this question.  I might think I am not worthy and that Jesus didn't really mean me, but the truth is I am not worthy, but Grace has me covered.

Mark 10:17 (NIV)

"As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

Jesus' answer to the man who asked this question can be as troubling for us as it was for him.  Jesus' command to, "then come, follow me," are meant for our ears too.  We are to get rid of the earthly things which we put before God and grab hold of Jesus.  Anything that is an idol for us, must be recognized as such and we must turn to the one and only True God. Then we can be assured of our inheritance, we can be confident of our future.
