Romans 6:11 (NIV)
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Once again, a verse I have read many times over the years but just now I noticed something that had not caught my eye before, "but alive to God".  There must be significance in these four words. I am wondering what makes me alive to God.  Through God's gift to us of His Son, Jesus we have gained everything.

  • We are made free from the reign of sin
  • We are Alive and no longer condemned
  • We have the prospect of eternal life
While sin has not been abolished, we have been given a Divine Grace to escort us through life. There is strength in the covenant of grace. A believer may struggle with sin and we may find ourselves in a great deal of trouble because of it, but it shall not have dominion over us.

There is no stronger motive against sin than the love of Christ.  The closer we draw to Jesus, the harder it will be to fall prey to Satan's taunts because of our closeness to the Savior. He is our protector, our comforter and our friend.
