Prayer is Waiting

Psalm 147:3-4 (NIV)  He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.

Recently I read about a book called, A Simple Act of Gratitude, by John Kralik. It seems the author was at the end of his rope. He was close to losing all that mattered to him, his family and his business. As many of us do at one time or another in life, he felt like everything was going wrong. Kralik had a mountain top experience and came out of it feeling called to write thank you notes; one each day for a year. His book is about that experience and how it changed him.

Psalm 147 reads much like a gratitude list, The time we have spent reading and praying through the Book of Psalms has been an eye opening experience, much like reading David's thank-you notes to God.  Things were not rosy for Him.  He lived in fear but he always thanked God. His heart was breaking over family matters, but he always thanked God.

Yesterday we talked about certain words the Psalms spoke to our hearts during this journey.  Today we acknowledge the fact that we have much for which to praise God.  The words He uses to convict our hearts are cause to praise.  The love we experience as we go through life, those rare mountain-top excursions that come at just the right time, the daily grind which provides for our support and well-being; all are reasons to praise God.

Psalm 147:8-9 (NIV)  He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.  He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.

There is nothing that will put the damper on a pity party quite like a gratitude list. We could go on and on.

Psalm 145,146,147
