Just Do It!

Ezra 8:35-36New International Version (NIV)

Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven male lambs and, as a sin offering,[a] twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the Lord. They also delivered the king’s orders to the royal satraps and to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, who then gave assistance to the people and to the house of God.
I had to look back and refresh my memory. Just what were the king's orders? Ezra 7:23 jumped off the page at me. Whatever the God of heaven has prescribed, let it be done with diligence for the temple of the God of heaven.
Simple instructions, wouldn't you say? Whatever God said to do, just do it! As I think on these words I realize life could be so simple. Were we to live this way there would be no need for prisons, for support groups, for family counseling...life would be sweet, as it was originally designed.
It can still be that way. Obedience makes life better.  When our children obey us, the day goes along much smoother and they are safer because they did what they were told. Notice, I didn't say easier because the children still had to do their chores, but there was the absence of chaos or drama. This always makes for a better day.
I realize these words may be over-simplifying things, but you get the point. What God asks of us is designed to keep us safe and happy. Isn't that a better way to go about life?
