This One Command

How often do you find yourself thinking and talking about godly things? How much focus and energy do you give to God's Word, and His truths? In the Old Testament, God's people were given hundreds of laws and regulations to abide by. But there is one specific command that sticks out above all the do's and don'ts.

"Love the Lord your God..." - Deuteronomy 6:5. Love Him with all your heart, soul and strength. That was a command.  Not in a, "Worship me, Robots!" sort of way. But in an "I AM the source of Life. Abide in Me and I will abide in you" sort of way.

The verses continue: "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates." - Deuteronomy 6:6-9.

This gives us a clear picture as to where God desires our priorities. He wants to be:

- On our hearts
- Impressed on our children
- Discussed in our homes
- Discussed when we aren't home
- Talked about when we go to sleep
- Talked about when we wake up
- Everywhere we will look and remember Him by

This loving God who desires our love in return wants more from us than our Sunday best. He wants all of us. God knows our love is fleeting. He knows it is forgetful, imperfect, and incomplete. Yet He wants it. All day, everyday. He desires to be the center of us, and our lives. The source of our strength and the center of our attention. Offer that to Him today. It transforms marriages, families, relationships and most importantly, eternities.
