Waiting for Wisdom

Ecclesiastes 11:8 (MSG)
Even if you live a long time, don't take a single day for granted. Take delight in each light-filled hour, remembering that there will also be many dark days and that most of what comes your way is smoke.

There has to be a big story behind these words from Solomon. I wonder what the back-story might be; what happened to prompt this King to write such words. I know from my own experience, when looking back, I have a similar sense of making the most of each day.

People who have lost loved ones before anyone was ready to bid farewell might feel this way. Those who, maybe lost golden opportunities because of hesitation or self-doubt, have serious issues with waiting for the right moment. The idea might be, it is timelier to ask forgiveness than seek permission.

Psalm 90:12 from the Message Bible says: “Oh! Teach us to live well! Teach us to live wisely and well!

We are taught to recognize that life is short and we should ponder the long-range view while considering every moment precious and valuable.
Ecclesiastes 11:1-10
