It's easy to become weary. Waiting often strips us of hope. It can steal our confidence in a capable God, who so often leads us into seasons of waiting by His own power. I am personally finding that God doesn't want me to merely wait, but to be patiently patient. Rather than grumble and doubt my way through the process, He wants to see me face it head on and succeed while I wait. There is ground to cover in the midst of waiting:
We boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character;
and character, hope.
Romans 5:2b-4
A woman who knew patient suffering was Sarah, the wife of Abraham. For decades her heart ached for a child, but she was barren. After years of hope, prayers, countless tears and sorrow, Sarah let go of her dream of ever becoming a mother. Patient Road was a long one, and eventually old age showed Sarah to her exit.Then one day, the Lord paid Abraham a visit. While they dined, the Lord told Abraham that within a year he and Sarah would have a son:
Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.
Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the
age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought,
"After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?"
Genesis 18:10-12
Suffering produces perseverance. The definition of perseverance is this: steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Sounds like patience to me! Which leads to character; which leads to hope. Waiting isn't fun, but it's essential to our well being and maturity in the Lord. If you are weary from the wait, remember our God who filled the old, barren womb with life! Embrace the wait, and draw near to the One who only wants what's best for you. In His time. According to His Will.
