Many of us love the verse from Jeremiah about God having a plan. The writing in Deuteronomy today reinforces that thought. God does have a plan, He has had one since before time began. It is in Deuteronomy we hear the promise of a Savior, a Prophet above all prophets. This prophet will make God known to man.
Moses continued, "The L ord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. (Deuteronomy 18:15)
Steven used these very words when he faced the Sanhedrin. He used them to support his claim that Jesus Christ is God's Son, the Messiah. “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’(Acts 7:37) The coming of Jesus Christ to earth was not an afterthought, but part of God's original plan.
Does this fact provide comfort when your world falls apart? Can we grab hold of these ancient words and feel that our lives have purpose and meaning, when circumstances leave us wondering? Remember Steven, the first Christian martyr. He told the story of Jesus, going back to the time of Moses, quoting the Holy Scrolls.
It is back to these same scrolls, the Holy Bible, we can turn when faced with danger and or death. When we can't understand God's plan, when we doubt and fear what will happen to us next we can find our future by looking to the past. Jesus is both - yesterday and today - and He is our tomorrow.
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
