If Only Ten Can Be Found

Many of us may look at recent headlines in American news, and grieve for our nation. We aren't the same country we were 100 years ago. What some see as progress and necessary change, many others see as disastrous decisions that are pulling our nation farther and farther away from God and His truths. History has shown that when a nation continually chooses sin over God and His set boundaries, they ultimately lose God's hand of protection over them. Not something we need to worry about? Here are some startling statistics:
  • The porn industry in America brings in $11 billion dollars annually.
  • There are an estimated 2,899 abortions performed in our country each day.
  • Approximately 1.2 million marriages in America end in divorce each year.
  • Drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in our country.
  • 78% of Americans don't believe the Bible to be the literal Word of God

In Genesis, before the Lord destroyed Sodom, He was approached by Abraham. Abraham was aware of the sin that consumed this city, and he knew it grieved the Lord. But for the sake of the believers remaining in Sodom, He asked God a question:

Then Abraham approached Him and said:
“Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
What if there are fifty righteous people in the city?
Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place
for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?...The Lord said,
“If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom,
I will spare the whole place for their sake.
Genesis 18:23-24,26

Abraham continued to reverently question God for the sake of the believers there. He didn't wish to see God destroy the righteous because of the unrighteous.

Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry,
but let me speak just once more.
What if only ten can be found there?”
He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”
Genesis 18:32

We ought to be praying regularly and passionately for our nation. As our country continues to pave the way for modern progress, equality, and personal freedoms with no boundaries, we as believers need to be lifting our prayers to the Heavens. May God see the hearts of His righteous people standing for truth, and shining light in a dark world. Our prayers will never go unheard, and our God will never forsake His children.

Even if only ten can be found.
