More Than Mundane

Ever wonder if God truly has something in store for you? A plan, a purpose, a reason for your life outside of the ordinary and mundane?

In seasons where God's will is clear and concise, there is great joy and contentment. There is excitement and fulfillment as we seek the task He has clearly given us. But in those seasons where God feels far away; when it feels like He's forgotten or abandoned us; when hope is lost that He truly has a purpose and plan for me...it's important to hold tight to the truths of scripture. These are the seasons when the enemy creeps in to whisper lies into our broken souls. 'We don't have worth. We aren't loved. We don't have purpose'. But God truly yearns to use each of us according to our own design.

"...the Lord has assigned to each his task."

-1 Corinthians 3:5b

God not only has a specific task for each of us, He calls us 'co-workers in His service'. We are to work side by side with God, according to His will.

"The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose,
and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.
For we are co-workers in God's service.
You are God's field, God's building."

- 1 Corinthians 3:8-9

So, is God calling you to plant or water? In other words, did God equip you to make disciples, or invest in disciples? Ever notice how some Christians have a sincere heart for the lost, and are gifted in reaching them? God has called those people to plant. Others, like myself, have a heart for believers; whether young or mature in the faith, struggling or flourishing in their relationship with God, our passion is investing in God's people. Meeting them where they are, nurturing their faith and encouraging them in their walk. God has called those people to water.

By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder,

and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.  For no one
can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.
It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
- 1 Corinthians 3:10-13

I am not always confident in my ability to water, or to build. Sometimes God lays tasks before me and I believe with confidence that He has purpose for my life. Other times I get lost in confusion and hopelessness that God would ever use me for something worthwhile. Wherever you are in your walk, may you clearly see our world as a field, and yourself as someone equipped to plant and/or water. God will make things grow. He does have plan and purpose for each of us, even in the midst of the mundane. And on the last day, the reward will be great!
