when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
never to rebuke you again.
Isaiah 54:9
Ever wonder how our world today compares to the days of Noah; when God looked down from Heaven and grieved that He ever made man? I sometimes wonder what was going on in the world in that time. What pushed God over the edge, to chose complete destruction of His creation? In the Genesis aftermath, when God placed a rainbow in the sky, His promise was to the future generations. Never again would He flood the Earth. That's a comforting promise! But in Isaiah, He takes it further. "So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again."
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
The world today is sin filled and corrupt. We as a nation, and as a people of the human race, continue to turn our backs on God. Evil has a tight grip, and Satan is the prince of this world. But thanks be to Jesus who crushed Satan's head at the cross. Jesus, who stood beside the Father as every tribe and tongue was swept away in the flood, now stands before you and says, 'in the days of Noah, I swore never to cover the Earth again. Now I swear my unfailing love for you will not be shaken.' The Lord no longer mourns His creation. Even if the depth of sin and hatred towards Him today are comparable to the days of Noah, we have His promise of provision, His promise of peace and compassion.
We may mourn the sins of our land. Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed...
We may turn our backs on God. Yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed...
Sometimes things may feel hopeless. But God isn't going anywhere, and He hasn't given up on us. We are protected by His promise, and His unfailing love. That's the gift of redemption.
That's our God.
