The story of
creation abounds with life, with water a critical component and a symbol of
life.
“Now the earth was
formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit
of God was hovering over the waters.” Genesis 1:2
In obedience and
fulfillment of the Hebrew law, down went the One who knew no sin into the water
of the Jordan River to be baptized. At
the same moment John baptized Jesus with water, God baptized His Son with the Holy
Spirit.
Down through the clouds came a dove, a
messenger of God’s Spirit. As both baptisms
interfaced, the earthly ministry of Jesus began.
As with water and
spirit, there is a divine relationship between blood and spirit. Our DNA resides in our blood. The DNA in the blood
of Jesus was written in his Spirit.
A vivid picture of the Father
and the Son is painted in Hebrews 10. The body of Jesus containing the DNA of the father is sacrificed for
mankind. With the blood offering of Jesus all who believe in Him are given a position
of perfection before God. Our Father goes a step further by sending His Spirit
to live inside of us; where he applies the blood DNA of Jesus to our lives
under a new covenant.
As we are born anew of his Spirit, within the deep mysteries of God the same blood DNA Jesus carried in his body is communicated by his Spirit unto our spirits.
Rock of Ages,
cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.
