If He is For Us...

I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near.
A star will come out of Jacob;
a scepter will rise out of Israel.
He will crush the foreheads of Moab...
Numbers 24:17

Balak wanted a curse. He, a Moabite king, desperate to defeat Isreal, God's chosen people, sought out a prophet to prophesy against this blessed nation. Surely their demise was on the horizon. Surely they could be cursed, defeated and destroyed...

Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour.
1 Peter 5:8.

Balaam the prophet sought the Lord over the nation of Israel, and the Lord responded. He had a message for King Balak in Numbers 24:17, but it didn't include plans of destruction. The Lord was with Israel. As its enemies rose up and plotted, God once again proclaimed His alliance to His chosen people.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31

"I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near."
"A star will come out of Jacob"
"A scepter will rise out of Israel."

The star out of Jacob would lay beneath the star of Bethlehem. The root of David, the bright Morning Star. The scepter that rose out of Israel, the King whose reign will never end, would lay cold and bare in a manger. Emmanuel. God with us. As the enemy prowls the Earth, the Hound of Heaven would find Himself prey.

"Afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed"
2 Corinthians 4:8-9

If He is for us, who can be against us? Even when the kings of failure, rejection or pain seek to steal our joy, we can be more than conquerors. Even when financial uncertainty, crushed dreams, or broken families seek to destroy us; when the enemy who prowls is near; when we feel cursed, defeated or even destroyed, the One who chose us by name proclaims not prophesy but fulfillment: "See Him now. Behold Him, He is near! The Light of the World has come. He rules the nations with Truth and Justice!"

And nothing will steal His protection over you.

He will crush the foreheads of Moab
Numbers 24:17b

1. What kings have you allowed to rule in your life that seek to destroy you?
2. What does it mean to you that God is for you?
3. What is the Moab in your life that you're waiting for God to crush?
