Psalms are
poems intended to be read and sung.
Our
hearts are compelled to sing out our love and adoration for the Lord. Someday with the redeemed of the earth, with
those we have brought to the knowledge of God’s saving grace, we will sing a new
song forever.
David poured out his heart to God in praise
as he wrote Psalms 96. Surely he had a
visual experience of Heaven and earth in symphony.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the
earth be glad; let the
sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for
joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the
earth. He will judge the world in
righteousness and the
peoples in his faithfulness. Psalms 96:11-13
The sacred
privilege of attending dying people during years of clinical nursing remains
fresh in my heart and mind. Some spoke
of beautiful flowers and trees swaying and singing in praise to God, some of
seeing the Lord and their loved ones.
You will go out in joy and be led forth
in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the
trees of the field will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12
When we are Home, a new song will be put on our
lips by God Himself; a song never sung before, known only to the
redeemed.
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are
worthy to take the scroll and to open its
seals, because you were slain, and
with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and
language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9
Music is well said to be the speech of angels. ~Thomas Carlyle
