When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
The faithful followers were gathered together, all in once place. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He told them to wait. "...he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about." Acts 1:4 (NIV)
The Holy Spirit came to the Believers and everything changed, just like Jesus said. This was the fulfillment of John the Baptists' words about the Holy Spirit baptizing with fire. It was a miraculous day, filled with wonder and awe. People heard the Gospel preached, thousands heard and believed.
The Holy Spirit makes all the difference for us too, we only need to know that He is God, He is real and we can call upon Him for wisdom and healing and understanding. His guidance will steer us through rough waters, allowing us to see dangers ahead.
When petitioned for help He is at our side providing for us, the things we can't provide on our own. Healing is a prayer away. When I learn to call upon the Holy Spirit to put my worldly ways to death and to give me new life, He responds.
No wonder Jesus told His followers to wait for the Holy Spirit. Once the Spirit was upon them they were set loose upon the world. The Good News spread to the ends of the earth.
Acts 2:1-20
