United we Stand

Acts 2:5-6 (NLT)
5  At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. 6  When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.

Imagine the feeling of unity when, in the midst of so many who speak different languages you are able to understand everyone!  While they might have felt alone in the crowd before, this one miracle brought them together. The Holy Spirit arrived and nothing has been the same since.

The arrival of the Holy Spirit marked the begining of the Christian experience. We were united in Christ through His Spirit. The Spirit unites the Christian community in Christ.

Ephesians 2:20-21 (NLT)
20  Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.  21  We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.

When we are feeling as if we are no longer on the same page with one another; and we go in different directions, there is no unity. But, turning to the Holy Spirit for help, we can once again walk in unison, with love and understanding of each other - even agreeing to disagree.

I never considered praying to the Holy Spirit for unity before. But it makes sense, doesn't it? Let's pray. Heavenly Father, please send your Holy Spirit to unit our church, to unit our county and to bring us close to you. Hold us tight.  In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
