We are commanded to walk in unity, (as one in
spirit) as we are the Body of Christ in the world. We are being prepared as the bride of Christ for the Celestial City to come.
The principle is simple --
Our physical bodies are designed for unity.
If we hit our thumb with a hammer, we are quickly aware of the unity of our bodies when out of harmony.
Likewise, as members of the Body of Christ, we
must quickly be aware when we or others are out of harmony, weakening the
integrity of the unified body.
As the temple of the living God, our bodies are composed of
spiritual substance and filled with divine intelligence. Only as we treat our bodies accordingly in this truth
can we experience unity with the Holy Spirit, with our brothers and sisters in the community
of His Spirit.
We are branches of the Vine (living in a new space,) rooted in permanent and intimate relationship with Jesus. “The Spirit gives
life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they
are full of the Spirit and life.” (John 6:63)
As we surrender all of ourselves to His Holy Spirit, what is out
of harmony is restored. We come to His table offering up what is broken. We are
restored through His broken body, our sin washed white by His blood. "Lord Cleanse
me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. "(Psalm 51:7)
How
painful it is to be out of relationship with our Lord, our loved ones and our
brothers and sisters in the faith. As
Jesus washed the disciple’s feet, He was also washing their hearts and spirits.
As we follow His example, serving each other in love, we restore unity and fellowship as one unified body.
Peace of the Lord!
