Wife of noble character

3  ApriL

Read Proverbs 31:17-30 and reflect on the passage.

Laundry Piles up like a boss in my house. It’s amazing how much laundry seven human beings can create. Day in and day out, we relentlessly churn out more laundry that needs attention. Sigh. It’s a mundane task of life that just needs done, along with a million other little pieces that, when put together, create a day.

As I read the passage about the Proverbs 31 woman, she humbles me. It seems like laundry is the least of her worries. Her heart is planted firmly in the Lord’s hands. She is prepared, hardworking, confident, resourceful, giving, gracious, and wise. Day after day, she empties herself for the good of her family, her community, and her Lord. She has the scent of sacrifice and love all over her. She pours herself out through the caring, and the working, and the loving—through the laying down and the giving up. She is admonishing me to see the million mundane, nothing-like tasks of everyday life as the structure of my character. The preparation and planning of a day can make and shape my heart like Jesus’.

Questions

1. How are you planning your day so that you have space to care for others today?

2. How does God want to shape your character today through your “to do” list?

Prayer

Jesus, Your way is always one of bending down, pouring out, and giving up. Shape my heart like Yours today.
