Mark 12:30 "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."
If you have one of the Small Group or Individual study guides for this series, the question pondered this Monday morning is this:
This entire passage is powerful and begs us to ask, "How can I do this? How can flawed humans such as us, love in such a way?" What do you think? For me personally, I had to get to know God and experience Him before I could love like He commands. I sometimes don't quite understand what that love looks and acts like. I suspect it is tied in with the verse which follows this...
Mark 12:31 "The second is this: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Another tall order. How do I love my neighbor as myself? My response would be something like--I know how unlovable I am at times. I stand in awe of a God who can love me despite this, but He is God. How can humans even begin to love each other like this. I believe Jesus showed us how when he wrapped a towel around His waist and bent down to wash the feet of His disciples.
We find references to this command to love back in the Old Testament. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Deuteronomy 6:4-5; "love the Lord your God..." (Joshua 22:25) just to list a couple.
Dear Jesus,
Show me how to love you as you command, with my whole being. Help me to see the many ways I can do this today. Thank you for loving me so completely. --Amen
