Psalm34:11-15
“Come, my children, listen to me; I will
teach you the fear of the Lord.”
During childhood and adolescence our character traits are
primarily molded by parents, grandparents, teachers and sometimes fictional
heroes.
As adults, our character traits are influenced by people we trust and
admire. The problem is -- human character
is ever-changing.
Humans are amphibians, half spirit and half animal. As spirits,
we belong to the eternal world, and as animals we inhabit time. While our
spirits can be directed to an eternal object, our bodies, passions and
imaginations are in continual change, for to be in time means to change.
(The Screwtape Letters: C.S. Lewis)
Over the past months examples of human character (mental
and moral qualities distinctive to individuals,) remain on full review over
various forms of media. It is sad to see and hear.
“Whoever
of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies." Psalm 34:12-14
Our heavenly
Father has a goal for our lives, and that is to conform us to the image of His
Son Jesus Christ. Recognizing that we live in a dimension of time and change, we
must continually build and remodel our character. As followers of Jesus, we
want to leave a successful blueprint for others to follow: “Be imitators of me,
just as I also am of Christ.” I Corinthians 11:1
We are heaven-bound where at last our true selves will
be known! God’s love and unchanging character abides there forever.
