Feeling Good

Romans 13:12-14


So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light (v. 12).  I love this line.

Normally I go with the NIV translation, but this time I decided to check out what The Message had to say about Romans 13…

The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute!

As I was reading this, a song started playing in my head but I couldn't remember what it was called – thank goodness for Google! Turns out it was Feeling Good, first recorded by Nina Simone in 1965. Here's a sample of the lyrics…

It's a new dawn
It's a new day

And I'm feeling good

Just like The Message says, the night is about over and dawn is about to break. Our old way of living is over and a glorious new day is about to begin. We should be excited to get out of bed! What a great way to start our day, clothed in Christ. It really is the only way to get through this crazy life.
