Heavy Burdens Hopeful Heart

Well, God did it again.  He gave me scripture he must really want me to ponder.  Several months ago, I wrote about Galatians 6:1-5 and when I saw today’s assigned passage I thought, “Wait, that looks familiar.”  To be honest, I considered posting the same thing again, but I knew God had other plans.  He said, “Let’s take another look at this.”

This time, verse 2 stood out…Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.  What immediately came to mind was Texas.  Hurricane Harvey has certainly brought (and is still bringing) such devastation, but I’ve seen numerous examples of disciples fulfilling the law of Christ.

My heart breaks with sadness watching people being carried through the raging waters, but it also breaks my heart wide open with hope.  Friends and strangers alike are literally carrying each other’s burdens.  It truly is a heartbreakingly beautiful thing to see God at work – especially when other recent images from across the country show brothers and sisters who are definitely NOT restoring each other gently (from v. 1).

Many prayers are being raised and will continue to be raised for anyone dealing with tragedy and loss. Some people may be asking why things like hurricanes and hate happen.  I could write a lot more than I have space here about the whys, but the bottom line in any of these situations is to…Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

So, reach out today and pick up your neighbor because tomorrow who knows, you may be the one who needs to be carried.
