James 1:14-18    Every
Good Gift Comes from God
If we were asked “what is the most memorable gift you ever received?” I think it would quickly come to mind for most of us. Gifts are
often bound up in emotion.
My most memorable gift is full of emotion! My five-year-old
grandson had only five dollars to spend in a gift shop. He bought a ring for me
– his little face was one big smile! He is a precious gift and now fourteen. Overnights
at my house are infrequent. I am “letting go.” This is a “go away a little
closer Grandma” thing I think.
“If
we hold tightly to anything given to us, unwilling to let it go when the time
comes to let it go - or unwilling to allow it to be used as the Giver means it to
be used, we stunt the growth of the soul. The truth is that it is ours to thank
Him for and ours to offer back to Him, ours to let go of.”  (Passion and
Purity: Elisabeth Elliot)
James
reminds us that our most precious and perfect gifts come from our Father of the
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows through the seasons
of life. James 1:17
David
said, “But who am I and who are my people, that we should be able to give as
generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what
comes from your hand.” 1 Chronicles 29:14
Lord, let us accept each day as a gift. Let us follow the path you choose for us.
Help us to be thankful for your perfect gifts. Remind us that our work is to
care for those around us, focusing on how we can love and serve them through your
great love for us. Amen
