“The work is too heavy, you cannot handle it alone.” Exodus 18:18
I have learned to ask the Lord what is within my scope of work and responsibility, and what
is not. Self-reliant, over achieving people often don't know when to give it up. Sometimes, (I repeat, “sometimes,”) women strive to
fix relationships, to keep peace and make others happy, while men strive to
fix things, to find a solution for a problem.
When God commands us to do something, it is evidence equal
to an oath that we can do it, for it is God who works in us.
Nothing more is expected of us than what we can do within
our human limitations. God, works “like God,” and with Him nothing is
impossible.
Amos was simply a herdsman from Tekoa whose powers were
heightened by God. It happened to Peter, and to Paul. It happened to Abraham
Lincoln when he determined to uproot the slave trade.
We need more power, courage, and wisdom than we have.
Difficulty is a relative term, dependent on the power available to us at a
given time for a given task. Difficulty diminishes as power increases. Our
sufficiency is of God’s bidding and enabling. In the current of His revealed
purpose, there is nothing we may not trust Him to do.
Have you taken on more than you can handle with resulting
stress and disorder?
“Lord teach us not to burden ourselves like pack animals,
to remember that you said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
“As
one of a thousand you may just fail; But as ONE, PLUS GOD, you are bound to
win.”
Springs in the Valley, Mrs. Charles E. Cowman
