The past week was stressful with concerns for
responsibilities and commitments scheduled into the next couple of weeks. My
thoughts drifted in and out of past events and anticipation of future events. Feeling
like the “anxiety ridden Charlie Brown,” my focus was off-center. Letting go of
ghosts of the past and the illusion that I can manage the future, I remembered who I am in the Lord, the One the winds
and waves obeyed! Matthew 8:27
There are two golden days of the week we cannot
worry; yesterday with its regrets and
sorrows and tomorrow with its perceived
burdens and perils. Jesus taught us to live present
tense without fear and anxiety. “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:34
Does it sometimes seem Jesus had no view of
the 2018 world with its moment by moment news bytes of catastrophe? He, the
Alpha and Omega today asks the same question,
“Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27
Overheard in an Orchard
Said the Robin to the Sparrow; “I should
really like to know why these anxious human beings rush about and worry so?” Said
the Sparrow to the Robin; “Friend, I think it must be they have no Heavenly
Father such as cares for you and me.” (Elizabeth Cheney, 1859)
“This much is sure; contagious calm will
happen to the degree that we turn to Him.” Anxious for Nothing, (Max Lucado)
