The Wicked Will Perish

                                    2 Thessalonians 2:5-15

We are living in a part of the universe occupied by the rebel - enemy-occupied territory.  C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity

My spirit has become more sensitive to the presence of evil, of ill-will that means to oppress. I have learned that while I can’t change people or restrain evil, I must not let evil change me, I must not be silent in the presence of evil.

Consider Paul’s warning in today’s scripture. The Holy Spirit remains with us for a time. Angel presences remain for a time in the present darkness.

Our spirits long for an end of evil that destroys life and livelihood. God’s seasons are not at our beck and call. Still we read in Luke 18:6-7 that He will avenge His own elect in due time, and in Psalm 7:11 that God is a just judge, angry with the wicked every day.

Painfully I watched a person dear to me struggle with alcoholism at the cost of his health, his home and his peace of mind. He loved the Lord, he loved the Word, he was preparing for the ministry. I am convinced the enemy targeted his vulnerability and refused to let up, intent on destroying his witness, his joy, and eventually his life.

Followers of Christ hold to this promise: Jesus will forever balance the scales of fairness. A day will come in which we will see Satan pay for the evil he has inflicted on the world. All who follow him will hear the sentence: “Depart from me you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Matthew 25:41.

“Keep watch dear Lord with those who work, or watch, or weep this night. Give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, sooth the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake, Amen. (Book of Common Prayer)

Justice will prevail!
