King David's desire to "Give Praise to the LORD," is overflowing with faith and love. Mary's humble words, "My soul glorifies the LORD," are bursting with faith and trust in God. Both scenes are an awe-inspiring reason for our hope today. Our only true hope is Jesus.
Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts. (1 Chronicles 16:9)
At Christmas, we remember the birth of Jesus and celebrate in many and differing ways, with lots of festivities, much like our own personal birthdays. We tend to make a big deal out of them. Do you wonder how Mary and Joseph celebrated Jesus' birthdays? They recognized He was special, they understood the Scriptures, they knew the end of the story. Would that knowledge enhance or deter from the significance of that special day?
We show love during this season more than any other. The love Jesus exemplified, this absolute even crazy love, needs to be practiced every day. Mary, a young girl heard the message, and recognized the call upon her life. She considered herself the most fortunate woman on earth. How do you feel during this season?
QUESTIONS:
1. If you were Mary and Joseph, how would you celebrate Jesus' birthday each year?
2. How awe-struck are you when reading the Christmas story in the Gospel of Luke? Enough to share with someone?
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, show us how to create new traditions that honor this season for its real meaning. Fill us with hope and trust.
