“Be tender and loving one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another.” Romans 12:10 KJV
My
Sunday School classmates are an example of preferential care for each other. Within
a circle of love, we lift each other up as needs arise. We are patient with
each other when questions and interpretations of the Word differ. We celebrate
each other with gratitude for answered prayer, sharing each other’s
burdens and blessings. Gratitude and sharing are an essential pair -- one idea
does not exist gracefully without the other. It is said, “you might be Lutheran
if you carry silverware in your pocket because there might be a potluck.” --- We have a quarterly potluck!
To promote real oneness, no matter our backgrounds our individual rights and opinions must not hinder or mar the model Jesus set for us. The Good Samaritan is an epic story of "who is my neighbor?" Likewise, Paul didn't give us any wiggle room about building each other up as disciples of Jesus. "We who are strong have an obligation to bear with failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up." Romans 15:1-2
“The
Samaritan needs only to know where the wound is so he can anoint it.”
To
be like you Jesus, to be like you!
