Imagine giving a beautiful gift to someone
you love and then they never open it. For whatever reason, they show no interest or need for your gift. You suspect they are perfectly happy with their high tech devices and all of the beautiful possessions they own. Or, they could just be too busy with the drama
and hardships of life.
Or, you might start to take it personally. You may think, "If they really knew me, they would realize the contents of the box are of value. I am the kind of person who would only give them something they truly need and do not have."
Or, you might start to take it personally. You may think, "If they really knew me, they would realize the contents of the box are of value. I am the kind of person who would only give them something they truly need and do not have."
You decide that you mustn't be all that important to them. They're just too
independent and caught up in their own life. Obviously, it's not a mere oversight that they don't open your gift. It's outright rejection. Forget the gift!! You get angry. They do not care about who you are and what you want for them! You
begin to feel wrath.
The gift remains unopened.
God’s wrath is now being poured out on the world of
unrighteousness. God’s wrath is against us. The reason we need God to
reveal his righteousness to us in the gospel and to give it to us as a gift
through faith is that we are unrighteous.
We need righteousness and we don’t
have it. We need the gift of God’s righteousness.
