God is Sovereign

2 Kings 24:18-20
I'm no history buff and I certainly don’t understand the reasons for all of the wars.  But, when today’s passage points to God as the force behind man’s destruction of himself, I take pause.

I get that the king or leader of the nation wages war. In the U.S. that person is elected to their position.  So, it is our individual responsibility to promote people into power who follow God’s commands. But other than voting, what more can be done?  How can daily life impact the will of God in regards to war?

I dumb it down to a basic message for a person like me.  I must first know the will of God in order to practice it. I can then share what I believe with my friends and family. I should raise my children to be of good character with strong faith.  Yet, I am one parent among many who fiercely pray for the next generation, knowing these young adults have major doubts about our biblical teachings.

Specifically, my own son lives in a state of anxiety and concern with no relief or hope. He is certain that no government is to be trusted. He relies on the power of the Internet along with information overload from a college education.  He worries that his fellow citizens are much too complacent. I don't disagree but I don't know how to comfort him if he does not have faith in God.

I know that God is in charge! Just as in the days of Zedekiah, the peoples’ sin is the true cause for God giving long-deserved punishment upon the people.  It has to be the sin of the people who are opposed to God that cause Him wrath and The Lord will permit destruction of wicked leaders and the people they rule.

I can spread the gospel and pray for those with whom we have bestowed power.  Additionally, I shall pray that our youth find the true peace they are seeking in the Lord. God must be kept in the leadership of our society and in its people for He is in charge and faithful to those who love Him!
