Healing

Healing, doesn’t it seem allusive at times?

I have many things in my life like that.  Hurts, pains, loss.  Just when I think, “I think I am completely healed now,” some memory will come sweeping back.

We hear in today’s reading that the people of God had begun settling back into the city of Jericho, the city which God destroyed many years previous by causing the walls to fall.

The city of Jericho had been rebuilt and seemed to the people to be perfectly situated, a perfect place to call home.  The only issue was, the water was polluted.  They wanted their new home to be healed from the destruction of it’s past. They yearned for a new start, to have a fruitful and productive land in which to dwell. But that would be impossible without fresh water.

In desperation, the people of Jericho approach the newly appointed prophet, Elisha with their dilemma.  I find it amazing that Elisha does not seem to even think about it.  There is not a conversation recorded where God tells Elisha exactly what to do.

Elisha sees the people’s need and he seems to immediately know what to do!  He throws salt into the water from a new bowl.  The water is "healed" from it's pollution and the land is once again fruitful and productive.

Maybe God is calling YOU to bring a healing touch to someone else’s life.  Maybe the grief and pain you are now experiencing will be the healing balm someone else has been long searching for.

Do you see a need?  Don’t over think it, just trust that God will use whatever means He has placed in front of you.
After all, God is the One who brings the healing, not you!
Trust Him!

He can change what was brought down into destruction and breathe new life into it. He can make what was once deadly polluted into springs of hope!
