Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the Lord chose them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister before him forever.” (1 Chronicles 15:2 NIV)
David is moving the ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, but this time he followed all the rules God laid out for this sacred task in Numbers. David insisted that "no one but the Levites may carry the ark of God for the LORD had chosen them...
David, once again, learned from his mistakes. His life is a wonderful testimony to how we also should live. David consults the ancient scrolls regularly. Turning to scripture is how he knew what God wanted. It is how he learned about God and His unfailing love for him. When we turn to our Bibles and open the book to read, we too will cultivate a rich relationship while we grow our faith.
David learned by staying close to His Lord. He didn't shrink away when convicted but examined his heart and then cried out for forgiveness and mercy. Moving the ark was a very big deal and called for loud music and dancing too. Everyone dressed in their finest and celebrated with praise and worship.
Is there a lesson you have learned from time spent reading your Bible? Has God convicted you to change a habit or adopt a new one? Do you find peace when you submit to His Word? So much happens when we invest in this spiritual discipline...reading and studying His Word and learn from our mistakes.
Happy Thanksgiving!
