The Prophet Isaiah shares a word of hope
to people who are suffering. God does not protect them from all trouble (they
are in exile, and the text speaks of walking through fire). But there is an
ultimate promise – that no matter what comes the people can be courageous,
because God will bring salvation.

REFLECTION
By Elaine Pierce

Fear
not.
I
will be with you.
You
are precious and honored.
I
love you.
Do
not be afraid. I am with you.
I
created you for my glory.
I
formed you and made you.
Have you ever comforted a child
crying out in the night, a nightmare waking them up? What words of comfort
do you say? Do you tell your child not to be afraid? Do you tell your
child that you love them? Do you tell your child that they are precious?
Of course you do! Every loving parent
has had the opportunity to bring comfort and peace to their child. When
they are little, it might be because of a fall off a bike. As they get
older, it might be the unkind words of a classmate. And then, older still,
it might be to soothe the broken heart of a teenager. Older still, and it
might be for a job loss, a serious illness, even deeper, more serious issues.
Claim these promises in Isaiah 43 for yourself. God is speaking to his people, the nation Israel. They have been conquered by their enemy and led into captivity. But God is not done with his people. He has plans to bless them. He never leaves us, even in our darkest moment. Hold onto that as we walk through these divisive times as a nation. And call upon God for grace and mercy. He has good gifts to give us in abundance.

Elaine, I know you had to wait to write your devotion this week due to the new format, but to use a baseball term, you hit it out of the park. Was exactly what I needed today - very encouraging.
