The Bible promises us that
when we receive the Holy Spirit, God works through the Spirit to give us
particular gifts and strengths. In the Corinthian church (who first received
the letter we are reading today) these gifts of the Spirit had created
controversy. There was jealousy and competition amongst the Christians. As you
read today’s passage reflect on what gifts the Spirit has given you, and how
God has called you to use those gifts for the service of others.

REFLECTION
Ways to Use Spiritual
Gifts During a Pandemic
By Judy Webb
“There are different kinds
of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.” (Verse 4)
Believers are given certain gifts from the Holy Spirit and we are instructed to use for the good of the body. These gifts often enhance our passions, and even shape our ministries. During a season such as we have been experiencing in 2020, there are many opportunities to use these gifts to serve others in our family of faith, those in the Body of Christ.
The
gift of helps is one that is very valuable right now and it can look
like many different things. Those who are sending cards and notes to friends
they cannot visit, are using this Spiritual gift. Others with this trait are
making phone calls to connect with shut-ins, they are even providing food and
gift cards to folks who are struggling to put food on the table.
As
many families are changing their routines and working from home, some are also
using their gift of teaching to help the children who are experiencing at
home learning.
This
is also a wonderful time to share our faith. This could be as simple as telling
someone of the struggles we have faced and how our faith played a role
in overcoming the obstacle.
For
me, I have the gift of administration, intercessory prayer, and creative
communication. I deploy all three of these when working on these devotions. Much
prayer is involved before writing. I ask the Holy Spirit to give me wisdom to choose
the right words. Then I pray that
the words are accurate and that they will be heard as intended, and be helpful to a reader's
faith and Christian walk.
What
Spiritual Gifts do you have, and how have you been able to use them in new ways to
lift up and encourage the Body of Christ during 2020?
