Full Redemption

DAILY READING

Psalm 130:7

REFLECTION

I’ve Been Redeemed!

by Mary McGinnis

“Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.”  Psalm 130:7

What comes to mind when you hear the word redemption?

The writer of this Psalm begins by saying: “Out the depths I cry to you, O Lord! Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy!”  Psalm 130:1-2

Redemption begins with realizing we are held captive by sin.  To help us get a grasp on the full weight of our sin problem, close your eyes for a moment.

Picture yourself standing before the blinding perfection of the Almighty, Holy and Eternal God, the One who sees all and knows all, and cannot be fooled.  Picture your whole life story being laid out in plain view; every misspoken word, every person hurt, every rebellious step, all the skeletons you thought were carefully locked up in the closets of your past.

“If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?”  Psalm 130:3

Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death. . .”  Death is the payment needed for our sin. With these deep scars of shame and guilt, we could NEVER stand before God with the HOPE of His unfailing love.

Redemption means purchasing something back.  The Oxford dictionary defines it as “the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.

God’s story is a redemption story.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”  Romans 3:23-24

Jesus paid the wages of the massive sin debt that I owe.

When I look at the cross, I see my sins nailed there, paid for with the high cost of Jesus blood for me.
God paid the price of His own Son to redeem me, to buy me back, to free me from my chains of slavery to sin.

Through Christ’s death, God’s full wrath against sin is finally and fully satisfied.

Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

At the same time, the sins of those who have deeply hurt me are also nailed there.  All the injustices and pains of this sinful world are there too. Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the whole world, so I am now released from the dominion and rule of sin and darkness.

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”  Colossians 1:13-14

And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Praise Him now by lifting your heart to this song:  I AM REDEEMED!!

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for redeeming me!  Your redemption on the cross what was needed to satisfy God’s payment for my sin, and the sins of the whole world.  Now I am declared a part of Your Kingdom.  You have chosen me to walk now in the Hope of Your redeeming Love.  Use me to continue to carry out Your will, spreading the story of Your redeeming love to a world that desperately needs it!
