DAILY READING
DEVOTION / REFLECTION
Planned and Chosen
by Judy Webb
Early in my Christian walk, the passage from Jeremiah 29:11 came to
mean so much. I always questioned my purpose, my reason for living. I wasn’t suicidal,
but there were days I felt it would have been better had I not been born. I am
fairly sure we have all had those thoughts or similar feelings.
The words, “I know the
plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” These are powerful words to
hear when you doubt your existence has any meaning.
For he chose us in him
before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his
sight. In love he predestined us
for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his
pleasure and will—
These words from Ephesians
1:4-5 speak even louder to me, confirming that I am part of this world, part of
His plan. To realize that God chose me, that he chose you as well, long before
we even knew who He was, is overwhelming. It always fills my heart with a feeling of safety and love to know that I was chosen, not an accident. The passage in
Ephesians is like a prayer of praise and worship to the one to has my
future in His Hands. He has your future in His grip also.
I know this to be true, I am changed daily. Knowing He predestined me for adoption into His family, that I am redeemed and forgiven, well, that just takes my breath away.
There are days I long to be in Heaven with Jesus already, to be
praising and worshiping Him. But I am taken back to the words from Jeremiah which
remind me that He has plans for me. Until I have accomplished those plans for
Him, I am content to share words of comfort and love and truth to others. I
know there are many who still need to know they are also chosen and there really
is a plan and that they are instrumental in that plan.
PRAYER PRACTICE
Dear Jesus, thank you for
all you do for us every day. I pray Lord, that you will guide us as we work to
accomplish the plan you have for each of. Help us to complete the work you gave
us before we see you face to face. Amen
