“Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:19-20)
I have often wondered just what these two lines meant. I have read them before, heard them quoted by those who are more scholarly than I, but never understood the meaning for me. I say, for me, because scripture has become very personal. When I am lead to a passage, by any means, I feel God has taken me there because He has something to tell me, something particular He wants me to hear.
Jesus was always thinking about tomorrow, about the time he would leave his disciples and return to the Father. He spent His time while on earth teaching His beloved Disciples. He instructed them on the ways of life and of the world and he instilled in them a love for one another. By the time Jesus left them, they had bonded as the first Fellowship of Believers.
I have thought so much recently about this Body of Believers and the fellowship gained as a result. This is just one more example of Jesus preparing us for tomorrow, equipping us to persevere, while enabling us to embrace one another in His name.
