Romans 5:12-14 |
It is from Adam that ALL of mankind inherits Sin. Our condemnation is because of this one man’s sin. It's a "one and done" deal that can only be undone by another man, Jesus, who came to release us from the bondage of sin. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life! John 14:6
In this era, everyone wants to research their ancestry to know more about who they are. When I was young, my family said that my oldest sister had eyes like my father and my middle sister had eyes like my mother. But I had eyes like the milkman! I did not understand the humor and I simply felt stuck with something I could do nothing about.
Today, we have many traits that can be changed and many ways to change them. But, there remains only one way to change our identity and deadly destiny in Adam. The death we are talking about is death with separation of the physical body from the soul BUT also, of the soul from God. And it's not that we have just a little problem with sin, but more like a major bias away from God and towards sinning.
Think of us as computers with a factory default setting to sin. God offers the only software upgrade available as an enhancement to our original programming. It can raise awareness of our sin and prompt us to seek alternatives.
Inserting this interface makes sin less satisfying. It convicts us of our sin and allows confession, repentance and God's forgiveness as added blessings. This new processing system doesn't completely change our old self as much as it creates a new spirit in its place.
On our own, we function like machines designed for self serving behavior. We need a Savior! Not one of us is born with eyes like our Heavenly Father. It is only through Jesus as Redeemer that our bondage to sin is broken.
